Marine Ecologist Post Doctoral Contract

<>            The Applied Ecology and Restoration Research Team at the National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science, Center for Coastal Fisheries and Habitat Research (CCFHR) in Beaufort, North Carolina is soliciting applications for the subject contract position to conduct research on disturbance ecology of seagrasses and associated ecosystems.   The position is located at CCFHR in Beaufort, NC and will begin as soon as possible.  The incumbent will be working in a multidisciplinary research team environment in both temperate and tropical ecosystems conducting field and laboratory ecological research on disturbance and recovery dynamics of seagrasses and associated communities (e.g. coral reefs, fish).  Supervision will be by a senior scientist at CCFHR. Research includes; field surveys and manipulative experiments, laboratory greenhouse experiments, literature surveys and the development of disturbance and recovery models for application to NOAA?s conservation and restoration mission objectives. 

Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Marine Science or a closely related field, general knowledge of marine ecology, seagrass ecology and ecological modeling.  Experience with GIS, GPS and advanced programming language suitable for spatial modeling is appropriate. Other demonstrated skills needed are report and manuscript writing and oral presentation of scientific results. The position requires extensive field work at locations that may include any coastline of the United States. The applicant must be willing to travel for approximately 100 days per year.   Field work is conducted in small boats and aboard research ships and the applicant must be qualified to meet NOAA requirements for SCUBA dive to 130 ft. and have demonstrated ability to operate Class A, I and II NOAA vessels.  

            Base pay is set at $41,770 per annum and may run to two years. Submit letter of intent, including available start date, Resume, and three letters of recommendation to:
