TYPE OF NEWS: Information for graduates
STATUS: News (official)
TITLE: Boehringer Ingelheim PhD scholarships
ABSTRACT: Three times a year the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds awards
approximately 15 scholarships for doctoral students in the field of
biomedical basic research. The next deadline for applications will be June
1, 2005.
The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds funds projects, which aim to elucidate
basic phenomena of human life. Investigations on botanical and prokaryotic
topics may be supported as well if they are of general biological
importance whereas projects in the field of biotechnology as well as
studies on the course of diseases of the treatment of symptoms are not
eligible.
Applicants should not be older than 27 years, have achieved an excellent
university degree (diploma or equivalent, state examinations) on natural
sciences, veterinary medicine or pharmacy and should not have worked on
their dissertation longer than six months. EU citizens will be funded
worldwide whereas non-EU citizens have to carry out their project in an EU
Member State.
Scholarship holders will be granted a lump sum between 1400 EUR and 1900
EUR monthly, depending on the living costs of the relevant host country.
Additionally the foundation will pay a lump sum of 100 EUR per month for
project-related costs (books, travel expenses, etc.) and personal
insurance as well as, where it is the case, a spouse allowance. There will
be no financial support for children.
In addition to the financial support every scholarship holder once a year
receives the opportunity of attending an international conference and -
with support of the fonds - presenting the results of his research.
Furthermore it is expected that scholars participate in the yearly seminar
of Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds where they as well may present the actual
results of their work.
