Financial Perspectives for FP7 - letter by Helga Nowotny (Head ofEURAB)

Dear All,

please find enclosed a letter by Helga Nowotny, Head of the European
Research Advisory Board (EURAB), regarding the financial perspectives for
the new Framework Programme. It is clear that the doubling of the budget,
as proposed by the European Commission, will not materialise. In fact, the
final outcome of the negotiations with member states may actually lead to
a research budget that is well below what is needed to achieve the
ambitious goals that FP7 has been designed to meet. It is therefore of
utmost importance that the research community in Europe take action in
order to stress towards our politicians the importance of maintaining an
appropriate budget for research at European (and national) level.

Please pass this on to your colleagues, especially to those who may be in
some kind of influential position or have contacts to relevant media, and
consider what you yourself can do to help mobilise the research community
on this important issue.
