A i D - Active information service on European research funding Message AiD10528/1 (c) KoWi TYPE OF NEWS: Job vacancies STATUS: News (official) TITLE: Vacancy: Ph.D. at the Institute for Crystal Growth (IKZ) ABSTRACT: The Institute for Crystal Growth (IKZ) is working on crystalline materials. Its work ranges from basic research to technological problems. The IKZ is a non-profit institute belonging to the Leibniz Association, which embraces more than 80 research institutes nationwide. The IKZ invites applications for the position of a Ph.D. student. In the framework of a currently running project entitled 'Experimental and numerical study of hydrodynamic instabilities during growth of optical crystals from the melt' the applicant will be expected to carry out research leading to a Ph.D. Excellent skills in HPC and CFD are required, together with the ability to arrange experiments and measurements of the growth process. A collaborative attitude within the team is expected. During the next few years the institute intends to improve the numerical simulation of crystal growth processes. These developments will be focused on growth kinetic as well as virtual prototyping for grown materials in-house. Powerful computer technique and sophisticated experimental techniques are available. The initial appointment will be for three years and can be extended. The salary of this position corresponds to the German BAT-O scale. The Institute for Crystal Growth is an equal opportunity employer. Applications of qualified female candidates are particularly encouraged.
