MCFA at ESOF2004: our contribution, registration deadline, travelgrants

Dear Colleagues,

on 25-28 August 2004 a big international event will take place in
Stockholm/Sweden:

The Euroscience Open Forum 2004 (ESOF2004, www.esof2004.org)

The idea behind this pan-European meeting is to provide an
interdisciplinary forum for open dialogue, debate and discussion on
science and technology in society. Its objective is to bring scientists
from all fields, and people interested in science and technology, from all
over Europe to one meeting. The participants will be researchers, policy
makers, politicians and representatives from media and the science based
industries.

ESOF has been initiated by the association Euroscience but counts with the
collaboration of a multitude of other organisations. The MCFA is a member
of a European consortium that supports the initiative. Other members
include the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO), the European
University Association (EUA), the British Association (BA) and others.

The MCFA will contribute to the special ESOF Career Programme with two
full-day events:

- A symposium on the topic of "Mobility of researchers: challenges and
opportunities"
- A workshop on "Scientific careers in Europe"

The Mobility Symposium will look into issues such as "Mobility of Early
Stage Researchers" (follow-up of our Lisbon conference in February), "The
situation of young researchers in Central and Eastern European countries",
"Return and reintegration", and "Mobility beyond Europe".

In the Careers Workshop we will discus topics such as "Challenges
and opportunities of a European employment market for researchers", "The
long and winding road to independence", "Mentoring and networking",
"Trends in European career systems", "Family life and research career",
and "Intersectoral mobility - a one way street?".

More details can be found at this address:

We hope that many Marie Curie fellows (past and present!) will come to
Stockholm and take part in ESOF, and in particular in the Career
Programme. If you

REGISTER ON-LINE BEFORE 15 JUNE, YOU WILL SAVE UP TO 20 %

on the registration fee.

There are a limited number of grants available to support travel and
accommodation expenses of young researchers from Central and Eastern
Europe of all disciplines (age limit: 35 years). The sponsorship for these
grants has been kindly provided by the "Donors Association for the
Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany" ("Stifterverband für die
Deutsche Wissenschaft"), the DaimlerChrysler Fonds and UNESCO-ROSTE
(UNESCO Regional Office for Science and Technology). All details about the
application procedure as well as the special grant application form can be
obtained from the following address:

http://www.esof2004.org/questions_answers/index.asp

Besides active participation in discussions, selected candidates for the
travel grants will be invited to participate on a part time basis in
common duties during the Forum such as reception, access control, document
dispatching, "micro"/tape recording assistance etc.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: 20 JUNE 2004 !!
