EMBO Science Writing Prize 2005 Announcement

The EMBO Science & Society Programme announces its 4th Science Writing Prize, which is open to any life scientist in Europe under 40 years of age.

The prize is given for an outstanding piece of science writing designed to communicate a subject in the life sciences to a non-scientific audience. The theme for the 2005 competition is "Genes and behaviour". Entries must be on a topic related to this theme. We are particularly looking for innovative approaches or vehicles for communicating science to the public; the science itself may be somebody's own research, a burning topic in the public eye at present, or simply a piece of fascinating pure research. Most importantly, it should be written with a general, non-scientific, readership in mind.

Applicants should send an article of up to 2000 words by E-mail to scisoc@DROPMEembo.org. The deadline for entries is 15 April 2005.
The winner receives Euro 1.500, one-year's free subscription to EMBO reports, and is invited to one of EMBO's events to talk about her/his motivation for writing the piece, and for communicating with the public.

For more information and conditions to apply, please see:
