RE: [mcfa-int] RE: [mcfa-es] recognition of academic titles/SOLVIT

Dear all, unfortunatly I have also clashed against the Spanish bureaucracy in
this issue, and is not even being foreign that is the problem, I'm a Spanish
national, however I committed the crime of studying abroad and now I'm in the
same situation as that refered to here by many. I am about to finish my PhD
now and unfortunatly it wont be homologated, not even after paying loads of
many and waiting months.Because I did my undergraduate degree in a subject
that does not exist in Spanish universities (women's studies), they are not
homologating my degree and although my MA and PhD are in a recognised subject
(Sociology) they argue that since they dont recognise my degree they can't not
homologate my PhD either...So, it turns out that after 7 years of University
study in the UK, I'll have nothing if I was to go back to Spain, crazy if you
ask me, especially when you can come here (UK) with spanish titles and work
without problem, it defies all understanding I think. Anyway, if any kind of
action is taken to fight this I'd gladly get involved.

Best,
sara.

>>Dear all,
>>Those of the Spanish MCFA list are familiar with this case, I'll shortly
>>explain for the others. I hold a Dutch PhD title in sciences from the
>>university in Nijmegen. I am living in Spain and trying to apply for a job
>>as assistent professor at a spanish university. This means trouble. All (or
>>most there might be some good ones around) universities and other
>>government institutes do not accept the foreign title but require a
>>so-called homologation by the spanish ministry of both the PhD and MSc
>>title. This procedure costs about 300 euors and takes 6 months at the very
>>least, usually longer - check the MCFA-ES archives for horror stories on
>>this subject. The point is, that to my (and others) best knowledge this is
>>illegal and Dr titles should be accepted in the entire EU. However, when I
>>try to apply for a job they always exclude me because of this. I am now
>>going to try and fight it using the SOLVIT agencies of the EU DG Internal
>>Market. Therefore I would like to know if there is anyone among you who
>>tried this before and what your experiences are. I am also very interested
>>if someone has tried to fight a similar problem in Spain or another
>>European country before. Let's try to break down these mobility barriers!
>>Thanks,
>>Erik.
