Re: [mcfa-int] recognition of academic titles/SOLVIT

Dear all,
indeed, the recognition procedure (convalidation of studies + homologation of title) in Spain is still a very nasty thing and within the ERA should have no future.

One could fight it at different levels. That's one thing. But one should be aware, that this is a long process. Even longer than starting the recognition procedure.

And here my advice:
To save time and money: Do all your translations of all your studies, titles or whatever yourself, or by a friend,... . Go with this to the decanat of your faculty who issued the certificates. Tell them that is a one-to-one translation and ask them to sign that. Explain them for what you need that and usually they sign.
So you directly have original documents in Spanish language. That's what they ask for. So you can forget any official translation work.
That's the most quickest way.
If you see the chance that they recognize your studies (Dr title normally is not the problem, but comes after the titles), within 1-1.5 years you'll have it all
If not, they let you know what courses they do not acknowledge,..... you then decide.

Parallel to this work, of course, fighting.
The facts are known here. Even CSIC's new president is in favor of abandoning it (at least he said so in an interview in EL PAIS this year). But, changing things of public administration takes time. Be aware!

Having gone through the procedure, seeing how stupid it is, and what disadvantages it produces for the Spanish Science (I am seeing it now from the other side), whenever I have the chance I remind people in charge on this issue.

All the best
Wolfgang
