I would like to draw your attention to the International Symposium
announced below. Responsibility of scientists is a topic that used to be
high on the agenda of the MCFA in the earlier days but unfortunately has
moved a bit into the background lately.

"Science in the Service of War and the Responsibility of Scientists"
Ecole Normale Superieure, Salle Dussane

The event is sponsored by UNESCO, EuroScience, Pugwash-France, ADIF
(Association for the defense of international humanitarian law) and the
Fondations Daniel Iagolnitzer and La Ferthé (under aegis of the Fondation
de France).

Main themes will be:

- the weapons to which science contributes;
- their use in recent wars and the violations of the international
humanitarian law in armed conflicts (attacks and bombings of civilian
targets,...);
- the role of science in disarmament.

Entrance is free within the limit of available seats. Registration is
highly recommended.
