[MCFA Int] documents in e-mails

---- The International MCFA E-Mail List Server ----

Dear Laure, Dear Danny, Dear list members,

It's certainly right, that big files attached to e-mails might be
annoying and it's also true, that word macro viruses are effectively
spread via word documents attached to e-mails or via downloadable
documents.

On the other hand it's also true, as Danny said, that larger texts
are better readable, if they are nicely structured and formatted.
We also want to encourage people to comment on current topics, if
necessary also by writing more extensive statements.

I therefore like to suggest different solutions :

- The size of large documents can be considerably reduced, if fancy
images are kept to a minimum (try it with the available documents).
If sent via the mailing list, the document should rather not contain
images.

- comments in form of a straight e-mail are most welcome.

- We offer to make documents available for download via the homepage
of the swedish MCFA. This could be the preferential way as everyone
decides him/herself, if and when the file is downloaded. In this
case some kind of moderation of the documents would of course be
required.

Danny's document as any other document, that was published in
matters of the statutes discussion is available as word - file from
our topics page : http://www.csb.ki.se/mcfa/mcfa_top.html.

- All word documents sent via the mailing list should be checked for
possible viruses. There are a few virus detection programs available
(http://www.microsoft.com/msword/freestuff/mvtool/virusinfo.htm or
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Heights/7538/ : fwin).
The documents available for downloading are checked for macro
viruses.

I'm sorry to tell you, that the archive of the international mailing
list is temporarily not available. I expect the problem with the
server to be fixed by tomorrow.
