[MCFA Int] Re: documents in e-mails

---- The International MCFA E-Mail List Server ----

Just to add one last thought for people including
Word documents in emails: not everyone uses MSWord
by default. I work from a Unix account and would
never normally have any call to use a PC or Word.
For me to read the recent attached Word
documents took considerable effort ftp-ing to a
PC and then getting someone with Word to print
them out; even then one of them failed to work
completely. In my experience, in the Physics
community and in Science journals at least, exchange
of documents is always in Latex format. They are
readable in plain text for anyone who can't compile
them, and they are as far as I know not capable of
transmitting viruses.

I'm not suggesting Word users should switch to
Latex, only that when people post such documents
in future they may be making their ideas impossible
to read for some list members rather than easier.
I would suggest the most universally accessible
route to a nice easily read formatted document is
just a link to a HTMLised version on a Web page.
